Previously known as Trent FM, the station was consolidated with other stations under the branding Capital FM by Global Radio in 2011.

Capital FM network was officially established in 2011. But its flagship radio station (Capital London radio station) started broadcasting in 1973. Within next years other existing radio stations were renamed and added to this network. It changed its owners several times (previous owners are GCap Media, Chrysalis Radio; current owner is Global Radio).
